Keck Medicine of USC is the university’s medical enterprise, one of only two university-based medical systems in the Los Angeles area. Keck Medicine of USC includes the Keck School of Medicine of USC and the Keck Medical Center of USC. The Keck Medical Center is comprised of Keck Hospital of USC, USC Norris Cancer Hospital, USC Verdugo Hills Hospital, and USC’s faculty practice plan, USC Care Medical Group, Inc., as well as more than 40 outpatient facilities, some at affiliated hospitals, in Los Angeles, Orange, Kern, Tulare, and Ventura counties.

Keck Medicine of USC and Keck Medical Center of USC are not legal entities. Keck Hospital of USC, USC Norris Cancer Hospital, and USC Verdugo Hills Hospital are each separately licensed general acute care hospitals that are operating divisions of USC. The hospitals are part of the university.  Each hospital operates under the control and ownership of USC, which is a tax-exempt institution under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

USC Care Medical Group is a faculty practice plan that is used as a vehicle to deliver professional medical services to patients of hospitals and outpatient facilities affiliated with Keck Medicine of USC. USC Care Medical Group, Inc. is a California non-profit, public benefit corporation, which is tax exempt as a charitable organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.  Its sole member is USC.

The university’s policies and services relating to subpoenas, summons, complaints, legal representation, and signature authority also apply to Keck Medicine of USC.

  • Labor and employment
  • Liability claims and lawsuits, malpractice and risk management
  • Licensure, accreditation and regulatory
  • Medical staff
  • Patient treatment
